Frozen Strawberry Spritzer

So my mom used to make these special treats for us when we were kids: frozen strawberry drinks made with strawberries and sprite.  I know, clearly not the healthiest choice, but really tasty.  We used to love cooling off with them on the ridiculously hot summer afternoons we get here in Florida.  It may not be that hot yet, but we still like to cool down.

I don't drink soda anymore and I'm sure not about to give it to the kids, but I have some super sweet memories of drinking these things.  Food and emotions- funny how these things get mixed up!  Anyway, I wanted to create a healthier version of these since I'm so fond and haven't had one in a while.

Unlike a regular smoothie, I find this drink to be icier and easier to slurp down since it doesn't have any nuts, milks, fat, etc.  Not that those aren't good things, but there's a time and a place.  I wanted the icy sweetness with a hint of fizz that I remembered from my childhood.

Operation healthy drink was achieved with some sparkling water, honey and lemon.  Nothing crazy here.  Just make sure you get plain sparkling water and not anything with "natural flavors" or sweeteners.  This is the perfect treat to chill out with after some serious play time.

Frozen Strawberry Spritzer

2 cups frozen strawberries
1 1/2  cup sparkling water
1 tbsp raw honey
1 tbsp lemon juice

Dissolve honey in water first, this will keep it from clumping to the sides of the blender.

Pour strawberries in the blender and cover with water and lemon juice.

Add more sparkling water to cover berries if needed.
Blend on high until smooth and serve!

I find this is best enjoyed on a nice warm day and with a fun bendy straw.

Someone's going to their happy place.
